Dorothy LeMore Petifer - January 12, 2007

Dorothy "Dot" LeMore Speight Petifer, 61, of the Belgrade Community, Maysville, formerly of Silverdale, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 12, 2007 at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Betty Townsend in Silverdale. Homegoing Services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 12 Noon at the Abundant Life International Baptist Cathedral Church, 1518 Gumbranch Rd., Jacksonville with the Bishop Aubrey G. Mullin, Jr., Pastor, Co-Pastor, Vanessa Mullin, Officiating and Bishop Earl Purvis, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Jones-Petifer Family Cememtery.

Dot taught in the Onslow County School System for 20 years as a Teacher's Assistant with dedicated service to White Oak High School, Sothwest High School, Jacksonville High School and lastly, retiring from Summersill Elementary School. Dot was also a School Bus Driver for a number years. She was an ordained Non-Denominational Minister and enjoyed fellowshipping with many churches in the Onslow-Jones Counties and surrounding areas. Dot was blessed with the special touch and care of gardening and floral arrangements; she truly loved a beautiful garden. During her childhood years, she was a member of the family church, St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, Silverdale and after marriage to David, moved her membership to St. Stephens A.M.E. Zion Church, Belgrade Community.

She was predeceased by her father, Leander Gray Speight; her grandaughter, Wendy Noreen Petifer and one brother, Mitchell Mason.

She is survived by her husband, David Petifer of the home; 1 SON, Otis Petifer (Aliecia) of Durham; 2 DAUGHTERS, Valerie (Keith) Gutknecht of Menomonie, Wisconsin and Robin Petifer of Atlanta; 6 GRANDCHILDREN; her mother, Olether Mattocks Montford of Silverdale; 1 BROTHER, Herman Speight of Rocky Mount; 6 SISTERS, Estella Taylor and Leola Monroe both of Newport News, Virginia, Carol Bruce of Griffin, Georgia, Annie Norman and Betty Townsend both of Jacksonville, and Audrey Chadwick of Callio, Virginia; mother-in-law, Georgia Williams of the Belgrade Community; 7 brothers-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law and a host of neices, newphews, cousins, other relatives, loving friends and beautiful flowers.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Janaury 16, 2007 from 6-8 PM at Morgan Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Williamsburg Parkway, Jacksonville, on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service and all other times at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Betty Towsend, in Silverdale.

Her remains are resting peacefully at Morgan Funeral Home, Inc., Jacksonville,(910-347-9595).
