Sara McKenzie - May 16, 2010

Sara Elizabeth Gibbs McKenzie, 79, of New Bern, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at her residence.

She was an active member of St. Peters A.M.E. Zion Church where she served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board and directed the Junior Ushers for many years. As a native of Chester, Pennsylvania, she was a dedicated member of St. John's AUMP Church prior to relocating to New Bern.

Sara will be forever cherished by: her HUSBAND of 59 years, Grover McKenzie, Jr. of the home; 3 SONS, Gerald McKenzie (Sheree) of Pensacola, Florida, Grover McKenzie, III (Renee) of Willingboro, New Jersey and Darryl McKenzie (Melony) of Raleigh; 2 DAUGHTERS, Iris Foreman (Anthony) of Jacksonville and Renee McKenzie-Hayward (Isaac) of Lawnside, New Jersey; 9 GRANDCHILDREN; 5 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; 1 BROTHER, Charles Bowie of New Brunswick, New Jersey; 3 SISTERS, Annie Jones, Viola Bowie and Gail Bowie all of Chester, Pennsylvania; 1 DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, Roberta McKenzie of Marlton, New Jersey; and a host of NEPHEWS, NIECES, COUSINS, other relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving friends at 1418 Red Robin Lane, New Bern.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, from 1PM-6PM at Rivers-Morgan Funeral Home, Inc., 701 West Street, New Bern and on Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.

Sara's Homegoing Service will be conducted on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 1:30PM in the St. Peters A.M.E. Zion Church, 617 Queen Street, with the Rev. Dwain Murphy, Pastor, Officiating and the Rev. Joseph C. George, Eulogist. Interment will immediately follow the service in New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
